If I could do freelancing differently…

If I could do freelancing differently…
In terms of what I’ve done so far…
As an entrepreneur, I am always looking for ways to work smarter, not harder. If I could do things differently, I’d stay in my own lane and stop going down rabbit holes of online information and stick to one thing at a time. But mostly I’d stay ORGANIZED AND FOCUSED.
There I wrote it out loud….and even BOLDED it.
Yes, I’ve done ALL THE Digital Marketing THINGS and I still struggle. There is no balance. Time is just flying. Annnnnd now I have clients….who have problems that I help solve.
I am solving various digital marketing problems for small businesses. It seems that people don’t want to ‘DO’ marketing if it isn’t fun or they don’t understand the ‘technical aspects’ of social platforms, SEO, content, sales funnels, or email marketing. I get it. I’ve done it and that’s what I can do for you.
Past projects:
Managed Social media platforms
I’ve managed Instagram, Facebook, Twitter & Pinterest accounts for small businesses, artists, singers, tourism businesses, and beauty influencers.
Graphic Design
Canva is where I go to design all my Social media posts for my clients and myself. It’s user-friendly and great for content creation and visuals.
Photoshop & Lightroom – I’ve created and edited photos in both Photoshop & Lightroom.
Social Media Account Creation/Management/Optimization (for individual clients):
Social Media Marketing Strategy
I’ve created long-term social media management strategies for clients based on their industry and how they can improve their business to get more exposure online and drive traffic to their websites.
SEO Research and Optimization
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and site performance are communicating to search engines (like Google) and to your visitors. It is essential to get seen online and most people don’t get it right (with keywords and research) so I help by providing quality, valuable content that builds trust. This will help your website/business ranking on search engines.
Photography
I’ve shot a wedding, updated business websites and employee photos, accompanied a popular singer on tour as his personal photographer, personal branding photos/headshots for professionals, taken family and pet portraits, and updated a lifestyle blogger’s brand photos. I am passionate about photography, especially portrait photography where I capture your story through your eyes.
Content Creation/Content Marketing
If you are selling a product or service online, you need content. I’ve helped create blog content, outlines, and specialized content marketing based on SEO, newsletters, and content that audiences care about. I’ve spearheaded marketing campaigns from press releases to blog posts, video tutorials, and more to attract new leads and drive traffic to business websites.
Email Marketing
This is absolutely essential to your business. Always have a way for potential clients to reach you or you to reach them directly. You don’t own social media, but you do own your email, that is what you can control and use to advance your business. I’ve set up email marketing sequences, templates, and freebies for clients. I’ve managed email campaigns, increasing open rates by 20% through A/B testing. Why? Your online business needs a reason for someone to want to opt-in to receive your lovely emails.
Website Design
I’ll be honest, this is not my strong suit. But I am great at the design aspects of website creation and I’ve done it. People need a place to go to see your amazing products and services. I’ve created ‘landing pages,’ for clients who didn’t want a website but knew they needed to be online. There are many possibilities to get YOU seen online.
Branding
Branding is key to differentiating yourself from competitors in your field. It is so much more than just a logo and fonts. It is the whole feel and vibe of your business, which is important to attracting the right clients. Brand identity is used to create customer loyalty, a sense of trust and purpose, and a deeper meaning to a business’ product or service. Personal branding is my jam and I love doing this for clients and their new businesses. If you need clarity on your personal brand, I can help you get laser-focused on telling your story so potential customers will listen.
Podcasting
Starting the Naetif Jen podcast was born out of the idea of ‘bridging cultures.’ As an Alaskan native living in Greenland, I’m sharing what it’s like to live here, from my perspective and other Native perspectives. I’m also teaching people about money and digital marketing because I am a multi-passionate entrepreneur. Everyone should be interested in the people around them, how to manage their money, and how to market themselves and their business. These are all things that I talk about on the podcast. Have a listen here.
Other platforms I’ve used: Google Analytics, Google Suite, Buffer, ConvertKit, Trello, Asana, Flodesk, Google Drive, Semrush, Hubspot, Mailerlite, WordPress, Click-up, Planoly, WeTransfer, Paypal, Canva, Microsoft Office, Dubsado and many others that I probably forgot.
I’m sure I left some things out as these are things that I’ve just listed off the top of my head, but I just wanted to tell you about all it takes to have an online marketing business and all I do for my clients. It’s a lot.
One of the main things I learned is everyone has different needs.
I am helping solve these problems because I absolutely love digital marketing and how it’s all intertwined with each other. For example, a client asked for a new website for her business. Through our discovery call, I found that she needed to establish her personal brand even before she can get to her website design. Branding is its own animal that includes not only logos and fonts, (that’s just visuals), you need so much more even before you get to the visuals. It requires you to have Brand Discovery, Strategy, and Identity established before you create any visuals. Anyways, you get the idea.
What I do is get to the root of what they need and most times, they don’t even know where to begin. So that’s where I come in. Based on our initial call, I outline an individual proposal and begin the work. My goal is to solve their problem.
So to get back to my original question, ‘What would have I done differently if I could start over?’
Since I am going back to the basics, I would have stayed in my own creative lane of genius. I am returning to writing because it is my original love. The written word is a language that I get and I’m good at it. You see, people will pay for CONVENIENCE and Done-for-You answers to their problems, and whether you like it or not….marketing is in your life. From posting on social to writing a blog post to promote a new product or service, it is everywhere. And it’s massively effective.
So, I am glad I have a bit of knowledge and skin in this digital game. But it’s an ever-changing industry and I went down too many online rabbit holes to count. Now I am getting more focused and organized. I’ve learned that having a schedule is everything, time blocking is a must and consistency is key.
All I can say is that I’m still here, I’m showing up and I’m doing the work. I’m building the sales funnels, and the social media strategy, and writing the content to get seen by the right people in the right places.
If you could go back, what you would have done differently in your business?
